Off-duty CPD officer killed in Oak Lawn crash

OAK LAWN (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Police are investigating a fatal car crash that happened Sunday morning and involved an off-duty Chicago police officer.

Police said 35-year-old Chicago Police officer Edwin Espinoza was driving near 95th and Harlem just before 8 a.m., when his car slid off the road and hit a tree.

He was taken to Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Espinoza was off-duty at the time of the crash. He joined the department about a year ago. A GoFundMe for his family has raised over $22,000.
