(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Oswego residents are calling on Zoning Committee members to shut down a proposal allowing the construction of a cricket stadium.
The proposed cricket stadium would be located at Orchard Rd and Tuscany Trail, but resident Lorie Witzel says it would essentially be in her backyard.
"This is a quiet neighborhood, this is a family neighborhood. I have put a lot of money in my townhome, I share a lot line with this property,” she told WBBM Newsradio on Wednesday.
According to plans from developer Chakra 360, the stadium could provide seating for 24,000 fans, which Witzel says the village is not equipped to handle.
"When these numbers of people come here, our village is almost going to double. We don't have enough police and first responders should something happen,” she said.
Witzel said she's also concerned about traffic and fans parking in her neighborhood.
Opponents will be bringing up these concerns before the Zoning Committee, which was to meet Thursday.
"My hope is that the stadium will be pulled from this plan and they can find another location,” she said.
