CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- O'Hare and Midway airports are ready to welcome over 1.5 million travelers this busy labor day weekend.

Based on projections from airline carriers, the Chicago Department of Aviation reports 1.6 million passengers will make their way through O'Hare and Midway International airports between Thursday, August 31 and Tuesday, September 5.

Compared to Labor Day weekend last year, a strong recovery continues at O' Hare. The airport is expected to see a 7% increase in travelers.

While at Midway, officials said travel is about on par with last year with a modest one percent increase in passengers over 2022.

Here are a few reminders to avoid traffic back-ups:

-Free cell phone lots at both airports
-The Kennedy Expressway construction
-Early arrival
