(WBBM Newsradio) -- The new owner of a campground near Yorkville is promising big changes and hopes to overcome the stigma of decades of problems at the site.
The previous owner of Hide-A-Way Lakes Campground battled with Kendall County officials for years over issues including security at the site and drainage problems. Denise Moreno of West Chicago was murdered in a mobile home in 1993.
Campground developer Lance Beatch recently bought the property, which he says he's transforming into a first-class camping resort.
Beatch also hopes to shed memories of the campground's troubled past by changing its name to the Fox Bluff Resort.
He said he was able to buy the property for about $2.5 million, far less than he says it's worth, given its natural amenities.
“The first order of business is to clean up and reposition the property, which we’ve been doing for several months. The next step is to upgrade the buildings. This time next year we’ll have a resort-style pool in,” Beatch said.
