(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Members of the Chicago Park District Board have formally signed off on two music festivals coming to neighborhood parks this summer, despite concerns and opposition from people living around the concert sites.

The board approved a permit for Riot Fest in Douglass Park for September, and officials said a permit likewise had been approved for the Re:SET Festival coming to Riis Park starting June 23,

Both festivals have seen opposition from neighbors who voiced concerns about noise and other disruptions to the areas around the park.

“I am angry because we can’t pretend this was a good and fair process for everyone. This is a corporation throwing a lot of money and a sense of entitlement of people of color’s public space,” Douglass Park neighbor Karina Salano said.

Ald. Monique Scott (24th) , however, said Riot Fest increases visibility of the community and shows the neighborhood in a positive light.

"Riot Fest counters the stereotype that North Lawndale isn't a good place to live, work, or play,” Scott said.
