CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago continues to take in pets that were lost or abandoned in areas hit by hurricanes in the past few weeks.

Eighty-five dogs and cats arrived Sunday to the PAWS Chicago facility from Puerto Rico and Florida, from areas hit by Hurricanes Fiona and Ian. That’s in addition to the 53 pets PAWS was able to take in from those areas last week.

PAWS made the rescues in partnership with Wings of Rescue and the BISSELL Pet Foundation. According to PAWS, Wings of Rescue volunteer pilots flew the pets to the DuPage Flight Center in West Chicago, where PAWS Chicago vans were waiting for them.

The organization says its newly renovated medical center makes it possible to take in a large number of animals in emergency situations and provide the advanced level of care the pets need.
