CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The embattled principal of Walter Payton College Prep has announced her resignation after just a year on the job and months of what you could call a whispering campaign.
Melissa Resh took the job at Walter Payton College Prep at a time when there were allegations of racism at the elite school following a drop in black student enrollment.
And in recent weeks, there has been anonymous criticism on social media about her management style, transparency, and a perceived lack of teacher and student input.
A post attributed to a teacher described the environment as “a model of white supremacy culture.”
At the time, Resh responded writing, “I am eager to address that with humility, empathy, curiosity, and a focus on healing.”
In her resignation letter, Resh wrote, "After such a challenging year for all, I hope that my departure paves the way for brighter times ahead at Payton."
The former principal at John Hope High School, Michael Durr, takes over on an interim basis.
