CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Metra's Union Pacific-Northwest Line is operating with extensive delays after a pedestrian was fatally struck on the tracks near Edison Park.
The transit agency shut down all inbound and outbound Metra UP-NW trains for over an hour as crews investigated and cleared the scene.
Metra said the accident occurred at around 8:12 a.m.
According to Metra spokesperson Michael Gillis, the pedestrian was struck by an inbound train near a crosswalk at Oliphant Avenue. The train was not scheduled to stop at the Edison Park station, Gillis said.
The circumstances surrounding the accident remain unclear.
Service resumed at around 9:20 a.m.
WBBM traffic reporter Beau Duran suggests the Metra’s Milwaukee District North and North Central Lines and CTA Blue Line as good public transit alternatives.
