CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A pedestrian was struck and killed while on DuSable Lake Shore Drive earlier this morning.

Chicago police said shortly after 5:30 a.m. two men were trying to cross east on DuSable Lake Shore Drive near Chicago Avenue when one of them was hit in the southbound lanes by a BMW X-3.

The struck pedestrian was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in grave condition but ultimately succumbed to their injuries. The other pedestrian was not hurt.

The ages of the pedestrians are not yet known.

The driver of the BMW, a 63-year-old man, did not suffer physical injuries but was sent to Northwestern due to mental distress, police said.

CPD’s Major Accident Investigation Unit were at the scene, and, as a result, police blocked all lanes at Chestnut for over three hours. Traffic was diverted to Inner Lake Shore Drive.
