(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An investigation is underway after a shooting on the city's South Side involving a Chicago Police officer.

Police say at about 5:30 Friday night, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on 47th Street near Paulina Ave. of a vehicle authorities say was wanted in connection with a homicide.

At some point, an officer discharged his firearm, but no one was struck. It's not clear why it happened.

The person involved tried to get away but was eventually taken into custody.

The officer involved was transported to a hospital for minor injuries and observation.

The police department said at least one officer would be placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days, per department policy, as the Civilian Office of Police Accountability investigates the use of force.
