COOK COUNTY (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - There are calls for the reassignment of a Cook County judge who let an alleged domestic abuser walk, only to have the alleged victim later murdered.
More than two dozen elected officials have signed a letter to Chief Judge Timothy Evans asking him to permanently reassign Judge Thomas Nowinski.
Several weeks ago, Nowinski allowed 57-year old Constantin Beldie to be released on electronic monitoring after being accused of choking and attempting to kidnap his 54-year old wife.
Then, last month, Lacramioara Beldie was stabbed to death, and her husband was charged with killing her.
Back in February, a woman was stabbed and her 11-year old son was killed, after Judge Nowinski denied the woman an order of protection from Crosetti Brand who is now charged.
Evans said an investigation is underway into whether any employee failed to follow policies and procedures.
