
ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill.(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A pilot was able to walk away from a plane crash in a forest preserve near O'Hare International Airport on Friday evening, police said.
The incident occurred in Busse Woods Forest Preserve, near Higgins Road and Arlington Heights Road, around 7:15 p.m. It involved a small corporate plane, according to the Elk Grove Village Police Department, which assisted local firefighters and the Cook County Forest Preserves.
The pilot was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, officials said. It was not immediately known why the plane crashed.
Forest Preserves of Cook County police and other local emergency personnel are on the scene.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident, according to a statement from the FAA. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide further updates.
