(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A water pipe problem forced a massive evacuation this morning at a Near West Side senior housing facility.

Hundreds of seniors were forced out of their home Sunday morning after a pipe burst on the Near West Side.

Chicago fire and police were called to the Patrick Sullivan Senior Apartment building at 1633 West Madison around 1 a.m. as the facility's 400 residents were being evacuated.

Chicago Housing Authority officials said a ruptured water pipe in the building's basement resulted in flooding and no heat or hot water for residents, some of whom were taken to hotels for shelter.

A 70-year-old and 84-year-old were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
