LAKE IN THE HILLS (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Lake in the Hills’ UpRising Bakery and Cafe hosts special events to drum up business: music performances, painting with wine, resume writing, but it’s the all-ages, family-friendly drag show that’s got some making threats.

A person came in and spit on a pastry case.  Dog poop was left by the door.  Someone posted a sign that read, “pedophiles work here.”

The Lake in the Hills Police Department has received calls complaining about the event.

“Ridiculousness.” That’s how UpRising Bakery and Cafe owner Corinna Sac described the threats.

The cafe is described as a woman and LGBTQ+ owned and operated business.

Police said they’re investigating the threats and added that there is no nudity or sexually-explicit content planned.

Authorities said they’re aware there may be a protest and a counter-protest.

“Under no circumstances will the police department tolerate a disruption of this event or any activity that disrupts the peace,” Lake in the Hills police said in a statement.

There is no plan right now to call off the drag dinner show. The event is already sold out.
