(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Police in northwest suburban Bloomingdale are promising a crackdown on trespassing and vandalism at a redevelopment site that has fallen victim to the social-media trend of “urban exploring.”
In a Facebook post, authorities say juveniles and young adults have been causing damage to windows, walls and doors at the old Indian Lakes resort. It is undergoing restoration and will be known as Prairie Lakes.
“Prairie Lakes is not abandoned and NO individuals have permission to enter any parts of the building,” police said in the communication. “Please speak to your children and their friends about making smart decisions.”
Surveillance cameras are now operational at the site. Police said trespassers will be charged and parents could be held accountable for expenses associated with vandalism at the site.
