(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Evanston police say charges against a Chicago motorist can be credited to two traffic officers who refused to give up on solving a hit-and-run that left a pedestrian with injuries.

Authorities knew the victim was hit in February by a Nissan Rogue at Dempster and Chicago because the vehicle was captured on video by multiple cameras. Investigators could not make out the plate.

They continued looking for surveillance images, officials say, and found a vehicle that looked like the Rogue that consistently took the same route.

This led police to Eugenia Kuczynska, 66, of Chicago. She allegedly made an incriminating statement when authorities contacted her this month.

Police sought felony charges but said there was not enough evidence. Instead Kuczynska was charged with two misdemeanors: failure to render aid or provide information while involved in a traffic crash and failure to exercise due care to avoid a pedestrian.

Kuczynska posted bond and was released pending a July 28 court date, police said.

No further information was available.
