Soon the nation's gaze will turn from the 2022 midterm elections to the 2024 presidential election, and a new poll has found that a majority of Americans would rather vote for someone other than President Biden.

The survey of registered voters was conducted by Fox News, which found that if voters were to cast their ballots today, only 33% would vote to reelect President Biden. On the flip side, 54% said they would vote for someone else.

The results come as President Biden's approval rating has risen amongst Americans, with 46% approving of his overall job, while 53% disapprove. The numbers are up from last month's 43-56% for the same question.

But, Biden's reelect rating is amongst the lowest of former presidents two years into their first term. In September 2010, only 39% of voters said they would vote to reelect former President Obama, and in January 2018, 35% said the same for former President Donald Trump.

Biden's support comes mostly from his own party, as 71% of Democrats would vote for him if the election were today, while only 4% of Republicans and 13% of Independents would.

Overall, 10% of voters said that it is too soon to decide about the 2024 presidential election, as it is still not certain who will be running for either party.

The poll also looked to gauge how Americans view the president, finding some shocking and not-so-shocking results.

Amongst voters, 35% said they consider Biden a strong leader, a number that was 49% in October 2020. At the same time, 62% said they do not think he is a strong leader.

In other areas, results were closer, as 44% of voters said they think he is honest and trustworthy, while 52% do not; 46% of voters said they feel he cares about them, while 51% said they think he doesn't; and 40% said he has mental soundness to serve, but 56% felt he did not.

Americans also still have a negative view of how Biden is handling key issues, as 43% of voters support his energy policy, 52% disapprove; 44% approve of his handling of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, 52% disapprove; 35% approve of how he has handled the economy, 62% disapprove; 29% approve of how he is handling inflation 67% disapprove; and 37% approve of how he is handling crime, 58% disapprove.

But, Biden does get credit for his efforts to work in a bipartisan manner to solve critical issues, as the poll found he is more willing to work with the GOP in the eyes of Americans than the GOP is willing to work with him.

The poll was conducted from Oct. 9-12, 2022, and included 1,206 registered voters nationwide. It has an error margin of plus or minus 2.5%.
