CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - There’s new information about the killing of a pregnant woman Monday afternoon in the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

A pregnant woman was killed in an exchange of gunfire while trying to rob someone in Belmont Cragin on the Northwest Side Monday, police said.

Chicago police said 21-year old Genesis Escobar was inside a car in the 5200 Block of West Montana and announced a robbery. That’s when someone outside the car shot her in the shoulder, back and hand.

Iris Alvarez’s daughter was friends with the victim. Alvarez told CBS-2 she and her daughter heard the shots and looked out their window.

“Someone opened the driver door, walked around the vehicle, pulled the body out and threw it out and drove off,” Alvarez said.

Alvarez said the driver also threw money on top of  Escobar’s body. Alvarez said Escobar’s baby did not survive, either.

Family and friends said Escobar had been looking forward to being a first-time mom.

Police said no one is in custody.
