(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — President Biden will visit Chicago next week and use the city as a backdrop in hopes of bolstering his support for employer vaccine requirements, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Biden was expected to be in town Wednesday to visit a business that is obligating employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19, the paper reported.
The visit from the commander-in-chief comes as Chicago city government is requiring employees to get inoculated. City officials on Thursday announced plans to get all of Chicago’s 77 neighborhoods up to a vaccination rate of at least 77%.
Biden has supported private-sector vaccine requirements as a way to finally turn the page on the coronavirus pandemic. Vaccine hesitancy and COVID variants have created surges in some U.S. regions.
