(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker offered familiar-sounding criticisms Wednesday as he updated the state’s efforts to help ease the migrant crisis in Chicago and other communities.
The Democrat again blasted the administration of Republican Gov.
Greg Abbott of Texas, which continues to send migrants north without food and winter clothing. And Pritzker faulted Washington – especially the Republican-controlled House – for not coming through with money to help Illinois care for the asylum seekers who are continually arriving.
“Let’s all just all recognize that this is being foisted on the city of Chicago – nobody’s asked for this,” Pritzker said.
Late last year, the Pritzker Administration said it would make tens of millions of dollars available to help Chicago shelter migrants. On Wednesday, officials announced the opening of a state-supported shelter for migrants in the Little Village neighborhood.
More assistance is needed, the governor said.
“People arrive every day. We don't know how many are coming. We don't know how many buses will arrive. We don't know where they'll arrive,” Pritzker said.
