CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Driving to O’Hare International Airport was an issue for much of Monday morning after a pro-Palestinian protest shut down all lanes of Interstate 190 and blocked terminal access.
Starting around 8 a.m., protesters were seen sitting and standing on the access road between the Kennedy Expressway and O’Hare, holding signs and leading chants.
The activity not only led to a four mile traffic jam but the inability to get to O’Hare.
Travelers were urged to take the CTA Blue Line in order to reach the airport in time to catch their flight. Some were even seen getting out of vehicles and walking to the airport.
The disruption lasted for more than an hour, with the two left lanes of I-190 reopening shortly after 9 a.m.
However, traffic continued to be heavy on the O’Hare extension until the early afternoon. From Cumberland to past Bessie Coleman, traffic stood at a crawl.
