(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- DuPage County’s top prosecutor says no charges will be filed against a Lombard police officer after that officer shot and killed a robbery suspect in early December.
State's Attorney Robert Berlin says he's done a "thorough and extensive investigation" following the use of deadly force by Lombard Police Detective Ryan Postal.
Postal shot and killed armed robbery suspect Pierre Thompson three months ago outside a tobacco shop that authorities say Thompson and another man had targeted. Thompson had a modified firearm that could fire like a machine gun, Berlin said.
Thompson raised his pistol and shot at Detective Postal and that Postal shot back twice, fatally injuring Thompson.
Postal was injured in the exchange of gunfire and suffered a shattered femur, Berlin said.
His investigation determined the detective's actions were "legally justified,” the prosecutor said.
