(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- State health officials are encouraging people to check their pantries after two cases of Salmonella surfaced in Illinois amid a national recall of baking flour.

Nationally, 13 people have gotten Salmonella infections linked to consuming Gold Medal flour. General Mills has issued a recall of bags of unbleached and bleached all-purpose flour in 2-, 5- and 10-pound sizes.

The suspect flour has a “better if used by” date of March 27 or 28 of next year.

Federal health authorities estimate there are more than 1 million Salmonella cases in the U.S. each year.

Salmonella symptoms include head and body aches, diarrhea, vomiting, chills and fever. Those can be severe among the very young, the very old or those with weak immune systems.
