(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Two recent high school graduates were killed in a car crash in suburban Hoffman Estates Saturday morning.

It happened just before 9 a.m. near Higgins and Barrington Roads. Amelia Mazeikis, 18, and D’Shaun Tudela, 18, were driving when they collided with two other vehicles.

The two had been dating for three years and had just graduated from Schaumburg High School, according to a GoFundMe started by Tudela’s mother. She wrote that they were on their way to work when the crash happened.

Mazeikis and Tudela were pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

School District 211 offered its thoughts and prayers to the teens’ family and friends and said support services would be available to students this week.

“Amelia Mazeikis and D’Shaun Tudela were individuals with bright futures ahead of them, and this devastating news affects many in our Saxon high school community,” district officials wrote in a statement. “We offer our sincere condolences to all Schaumburg High School students, families and staff.”

In another GoFundMe started for Mazeikis’ family, organizers wrote that Mazeikis was a “talented artist, gymnast and animal lover.”

“She was an amazing sister, daughter and friend to many,” they wrote.

Two other people were reportedly involved in the crash and were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities are still investigating the crash.
