(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Authorities say they made several arrests at Six Flags Great America over the weekend, after fights broke out inside the amusement park.

It was the first weekend as Illinois fully reopened.

At Six Flags Great America in north suburban Gurnee, the Lake County Sheriff’s Department assisted local police as multiple fights — some involving 10 to 20 people — broke out Sunday.

“This was the first weekend after we entered Phase 5. So, naturally, people are going to want to go out and do things they couldn’t do in the last year,” Sheriff Chief of Staff Anthony Vega said.

He suggested the crowds and hot weather could have been factors that set things off.

“Be courteous with people, be civil,” he said. “And if things are escalating, please call for help if you’re at an amusement park or any other public space.”

Six Flags said it has “zero tolerance” for bad behavior.

“The safety of our guests is always our highest priority,” officials said.
