(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood on Tuesday signaled he'll seek another term in Congress, rather than run for governor or the Illinois Supreme Court justice.

“I am committed to running for re-election in the district that I currently hold,” the Peoria area Republican said.

LaHood was in Springfield to tout medical legislation and tried to strike a balance on issues. He wore a mask but opposes governmental mandates.

He praised the newly-passed Senate infrastructure bill for its bipartisanship but expressed caution over its cost. The measure goes to the House.

Also Tuesday, LaHood said ethics questions about his father, former U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, should be directed to the elder LaHood.

A foreign national who was a campaign contributor to Darin LaHood gave a loan to Ray LaHood that was hid from regulators. A non-prosecution agreement with the feds came to light last year.
