MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A coalition of organizations against the Republican National Convention (RNC) marched through downtown Milwaukee on Monday, the first official day of the RNC.
“It’s a beautiful day to march on the RNC,” said one of the demonstration’s leaders.
An organizer with the Coalition to March on the RNC encourages a crowd of about 1,000 people to step out from shady areas on a sunny, hot and humid day in Milwaukee’s Red Arrow Park and take to the streets. The plan: to march in protest of the Republican agenda within sight and sound of the party’s more than 2,000 delegates.
Inside the park, those for and against access to abortion faced off with megaphones.
One man screamed, “Abortion is murder.” Another screamed, “Abortion is health care; abortion is essential.”
As coalition co-chair Omar Flores addressed the crowd before what he called a safe and family-friendly march through the downtown streets, he noted that there will be another opportunity to gather — in Chicago, next month, for the Democratic National Convention.
“Where we will be letting the Democrats know that we also see every bomb they drop on Gaza, every family they separate at the border, and every time they choose not to raise the minimum wage,” Flores said.
