CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Chicago animal rescue One Tail at a Time says things are looking up for a dog that was found severely malnourished late last month and has since become a social media darling.

The rescue has been sharing the ups and downs of the dog they named Sugar Snap on social media. The latest update is positive. The dog is seen walking with assistance on video posted to social media.

"He has perked up quite a bit and is able to take interest in the things around him which is a really promising step," the rescue said.

Sugar Snap has gained about four pounds, can stand on his own, and is eating and drinking on his own.

He has had blood transfusions, among other treatments and is being cared for at the Premier Veterinary Group. When Sugar Snap was brought to Animal Care and Control two weeks ago, he was emaciated and could not walk.

The rescue took Sugar Snap and started a fundraiser for his care, intent on saving his life. At least $13,000 has been donated so far. The rescue said is "covering the entirety of his care which is a miracle."
