CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A community meeting last night on the Northwest side focused on violent crime and complaints about one specific business.

Residents of Wicker Park, Ukrainian Village, and West Town met with police from the 12th and 14th Districts, along with Aldermen Daniel La Spata and Brian Hopkins.

Much of the focus, CBS 2 reports, was on the Lyon's Den Hookah Lounge on the 2100 block of West Division Street.

Pooja Gandhi lives across the street.

"Most of the time, it's extremely rowdy, meaning there's fights going on in the street," she said. "There's people basically having parties in the street."

A bouncer at the lounge was shot to death on New Years Eve. Neighbors want to see what’s known as a “Summary Closure,” used for nuisance businesses.

It’s the Police Superintendent’s call, and he declined.

"I'm the one who submitted a request for a summary closure - and in this particular case I disagree with the superintendent's judgement, respectfully," said Alderman Brian Hopkins.

“They basically need to see more deaths happen for them to be able to shut down the business," Gandhi said.
