HILLSIDE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Some residents of Hillside say they’ve had it with speeding cars.
The last straw was on Wednesday evening. A speeding driver lost control near Forest Avenue and Idlewild Lane and came close to hitting Alice Zollicoffer’s home.
She told CBS 2 that she operates a day care from her home.
"I heard some screeching noises and a big bang, and I was like, oh my goodness it must be a car accident on the corner," Zollicoffer said.
Roger Romanelli, a neighbor, was walking his dog when the incident occurred on Wednesday evening.
"Immediately me and the dog jumped out of the way, the guy flew right past me, I heard him come up here and crash," he said.
The car sped away. Romanelli would like to see speed cameras installed.
Hillside Mayor Joseph Tamburino said, in a statement, "The safety and wellbeing of our residents is the highest priority and traffic safety is no exception."
He went on to say the “police department has been aggressively enforcing traffic violations in the area.”
