CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Riot Fest attendee says her car was torched after refusing to pay for parking.
Gayle Kamberos went to pick up her wristband and check out opening night of Riot Fest last Friday night, so she parked near 15th and Albany, just a block away from the event entrance at Douglass Park.
"There was a gentleman running up and down the block saying, 'You need a parking space, it's $20.’ I said, 'I don't see any dibs here,’ and then he said, 'I'm gonna set your car on fire. I'm gonna set your car on fire,’” Kamberos recalled.
Against her better judgment, she left the car parked there and came back to find it had been torched.
While losing her car was upsetting, Kamberos said she’s equally troubled by the initial response from Chicago Police.
"They didn't even consider it a criminal act," Kamberos said. "They looked at my VIN number and saw it was a Fiat 500X, and they said, 'Well, there's been recalls for batteries exploding.'"
But, Kamberos caught some of the threatening interaction with the man on video and now said investigators are looking through nearby surveillance footage.
