CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Officials at Riot Fest want to buy Chicago's infamous rat hole, after city crews removed it from a Roscoe Village sidewalk.
The punk rock festival offered the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) $5,000 to purchase the concrete slab with a rat-shaped splat mark.
Festival officials posted their offer to buy the infamous rat hole on social media and gave CDOT 24-hours to respond. When there was no response, they threw in two VIP passes to anyone who can help facilitate the purchase.
Riot Fest officials said they would display the rat hole every year at the Douglass Park festival.
The infamous imprint of a rodent in the sidewalk went viral earlier in 2024. That prompted a wave of tourists to flock to the location, which now has a Wikipedia page. One couple even got married there.
Last week, Chicago's rat hole was torn out of the sidewalk along West Roscoe Street near North Wolcott Avenue in the city’s Roscoe Village neighborhood. It’s being held in an undisclosed location until the city decides what to do with the piece.
