AURORA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Leaders of an all-girls Catholic high school in Aurora are reassuring students, staff and parents about its future after a nearby all-boys school announced plans to become coed.
The decision of Marmion Academy to start accepting girls as early as the 2026-2027 school year has led to concerns and rumors about what will happen to Rosary High School.
“Rosary High School is thriving, and we are not closing,” Head of School Amy McMahon said. “The Dominican Sisters of Springfield who sponsor Rosary High School, they are not through with their mission of educating young women in the Dominican college prep tradition in the Fox Valley area.”
McMahon said Rosary plans to collaborate with Marmion but not to merge with it or any other institution.
“Rosary is not facing any financial hardship,” McMahon added. “We are financially solvent. We have achieved full-budgeted enrollment. We are working and currently creating a five-year strategic plan, and we have met 100 percent of the need-based student financial assistance that our students need.”
