(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Lake County judge sentences a man to 50 years in prison for the murder of an elderly Fox Lake man.
Lake County Illinois prosecutors are applauding the 50 year sentence for a Round Lake man convicted of murdering an elderly man in 2022.
Calling the victim “vulnerable and unarmed,” prosecutors say Azmi Ibrahim made a conscious decision to get out of his car with the gun he used to shoot 77-year-old Roy Hoffman in the head.
The Lake County state’s attorney had wanted a 60 year sentence, but Eric Rinehart says they take satisfaction in that Ibrahim will spend decades behind bars.
Police and prosecutors say the now 38-year-old drove a woman to Hoffman’s apartment for a romantic encounter for cash and shot Hoffman during an argument.
The woman testified against Ibrahim as part of a plea deal.
