(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 19-foot-tall statue that used to be a landmark in west suburban Cicero is now part of a new museum in central Illinois.

The figure of a man holding a hot dog was a fixture at Bunyon's hot dog stand on Old Route for more than three decades.

When the owner retired about 20 years ago, Bill Thomas of the Route 66 Association of Illinois helped find the statue a new home.

Thomas said he helped convince the owner of Bunyon's to allow the central Illinois community of Atlanta, which also is along Route 66, to be the statue's new home.

The statue is now part of the new American Giants Museum, which will feature six other giant roadside statues alongside the one that once graced Bunyon’s.

The statue’s 10-foot-long hot dog, Thomas notes, “appropriately has mustard – no ketchup.”
