The results are in for the airline rated safest in the world, and it might surprise you.

According to AirlineRatings.com, which monitors 385 global carriers, Air New Zealand topped their 2022 rankings.

Some of the factors playing into its lofty status are serious incident record, operations in difficult environments and, of course, response to the ongoing COVID pandemic.

Last year’s top-ranked airline, Qantas, fell all the way to #7 on the ’22 listing due to an accident at Perth Airport.

The highest ranked American airline is Alaska Airlines at #8. American, Delta, Hawaiian and United all made the top 20 as well.

Meanwhile, Frontier, Jetstar Group and JetBlue were ranked among the rankings’ top low-cost airlines.

AirlineRatings.com Editor-In-Chief Geoffrey Thomas noted that “there is very little between the top 20, they are all standouts.”

As for why Air New Zealand took the top spot, Thomas cited “a firm focus on safety and its customers and over the past 18 months, COVID-19 has brought another new dimension to the challenges the industry faces.”
