CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago police continue looking for whoever shot and killed a teaching assistant on Monday, as he was driving on the city's South Side. Meanwhile, the school where he worked is mourning his loss.

Quentine Carridine was a special education teaching assistant and a basketball coach at New Sullivan Fine Arts Academy.

"It was all about doing all that was needed here on a daily basis. He wore many hats," said principal Dr. Verona Portis.

"That's just the type of person he was and yes, everyone in our school family loved Mr. Carradine. We will miss him."

Portis said Carridine was taking a co-worker home, when he was killed by gunfire that hit his vehicle as he was driving at 87th and King.

She also said Carridine was universally admired at the school as a mentor and positive influence for both students and staff.

"Mr. Carridine was such a huge part of working with our diverse learners and our teachers. With his passing, it has been very emotional for us, but we're just keeping the focus on what Mr. Carradine cared most about- ensuring that our scholars were successful."

Chicago police said detectives continue to investigate the shooting, and are urging anyone with information about the killing, who saw what happened or has video of the shooting to contact them.
