(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A middle school safety officer in Indiana is being disciplined for leaving a gun in a bathroom.

The officer was relieved of his arresting powers after his gun was found in the bathroom at Honey Creek Middle School in Terre Haute.

Reports say a student at the school found the gun lying on the bathroom floor and immediately reported it.

The school's principal said the officer had taken the gun out of his holster while using the bathroom.

School officials say the student never handled the gun, but they're still calling the situation a concern.
