CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Teachers at Chicago’s Second City Training Center said they’ll be going on strike next Tuesday if management refuses to bargain any further.
Training Center faculty, facilitators, film school faculty, and music directors have been negotiating their first contract with the Second City for two years.
There have been dozens of bargaining sessions, and management recently made what the union said was their “last, best, and final offer,” which was firmly rejected.
The staffers are unionized through the Association of International Comedy Educators, which is part of the Illinois Federation of Teachers.
They said they’re paid notably less than their peers at other Chicago theaters.
In a statement shared by the union, teacher Ana Silva said: “Our demands are reasonable, and we’ve been at this long enough.”
