CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Service Employees International Union Local 1 is backing Alderwoman Pat Dowell in the crowded 1st Congressional District race.
Dowel has a track record of supporting issues crucial to working families and the union has been with her from the beginning.
In 2007, SEIU Local 1 backed Dowell against the longtime incumbent and she credited the union with being her key to becoming alderwoman of the 3rd Ward. The union has endorsed her to run for the 1st Congressional District.
With officials citing her support of labor issues now, Dowel hopes they come through again.
“It certainly means a lot because they have more than 3,500 members that are within the 1st Congressional District that could be supportive of my campaign efforts,” Dowel said.
There are some 20 democrats vying for Bobby Rush’s congressional seat now that he’s not running for re-election.
Tune into this Sunday’s At Issue program on WBBM Newsradio at 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m., where you’ll hear from three of the candidates.
