At Issue: Senate Republican leader says GOP gaining traction in Illinois

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) —  The top Republican in the Illinois Senate says his party is read for action as the spring legislative session gets into high gear.

Senate Republican Leader Dan McConchie of suburban Hawthorne Woods said one of the most positive signs his state party is what voters have done.

He noted Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker spent tens of millions of dollars trying to win approval for a graduated income tax — and failed. The Republican backs a measure that would require a supermajority vote to approve a tax increase.

So, what are the top priorities for his caucus this Spring session?

“I’d say the top agenda is, how do we make sure we stem the tide of people that are continuing to leave the state,” McConchie told WBBM Newsradio Political Editor Craig Dellimore.

High taxes are the primary reason many are leaving, he said.

McConchie is the guest on this weekend’s “At Issue,” which will air 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
