CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- “Serial stowaway” Marilyn Hartman was arrested - again - Tuesday at O’Hare Airport, just days after an interview explaining how she repeatedly got past airport security.
According to Chicago police, Hartman was taken into custody by officers around 2 p.m. at O’Hare International Airport for criminal trespass, after she allegedly left the facility she had been staying at while on electronic monitoring.
According to CBS 2, Hartman’s ankle bracelet was apparently not initially pinging — so she snuck away from custody at the West Side halfway house around noon.
The Cook County Sheriff’s office was notified by staff that Hartman had left the residential facility.
Staff attempted to contact Hartman through a phone built into her electronic monitoring device, but she did not answer, the sheriff’s office said. Eventually, the sheriff's office tracked her device and found she was headed in the direction of the airport.
The Cook County Sheriff’s office notified Chicago police that Hartman was near Terminal 1 around 1:40 p.m.
CBS 2 reported the Transportation Security Administration is familiar enough with Hartman that they spotted her and notified law enforcement. She made it to Terminal 2, but did not get farther than that.
Meanwhile, the sheriff's office activated an alarm siren on Hartman’s device and she was taken into custody shortly after. She did not enter any secure areas.
According to CBS 2, the sheriff’s office is planning to seek approval for a felony escape charge against Hartman.
Hartman has been arrested multiple times at O’Hare International Airport and Midway Airport, as well as other airports around the county.
In March, Hartman was sentenced to 18 months of probation after pleading guilty in March 2019 to sneaking past Chicago airport security, boarding a plane, and flying to London without a ticket the year before.
She was arrested again in October 2019 after being spotted at Terminal 1 at O’Hare Airport and was seen attempting to pass through security without a boarding pass or identification.
After that, Hartman was prohibited from going to O’Hare or Midway airports without a boarding pass.
In late March 2020, Hartman was released from Cook County Jail and put on home monitoring. She is already facing a felony charge for her previous crime, and Tuesday's incident could add another felony.
Hartman is expected to be returned to custody at the jail, and charges are pending, the sheriff’s office said. If charged with felony escape, Hartman could be in bond court on Wednesday.
