CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Several suburban school districts voted to make masks optional when students return but that was before last week’s recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that everyone wears them indoors. Changes could come next week.

Lake Zurich District 95 and Northwest Suburban 214 in Arlington Heights voted for optional masks late last week but most other school boards acted before the new CDC guidance.

The Daily Herald reported that includes Kaneland District 302 in Maple Park, St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 and Geneva Community Unit School District 304 that voted not to require them and have meetings slated for Aug. 9.

Wheaton-Warrenville Community School Unit District 200’s superintendent said they’re reevaluating after a vote for optional masks. Elgin School District Unit-46, the largest district outside Chicago, is mandating masks.
