CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Scattered thunderstorms will pose a potentially serious threat for the Chicago area this afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch, effective until 5 p.m., for the following counties: Lake, Kane, McHenry, Boone, De Kalb, Lee, Ogle and Winnebago.

The NWS says these storms could produce heavy downpours, damaging hail and high winds for a time. These storms are capable of downing tree limbs and fences.

The threat of storms will continue for the entire afternoon and linger into the evening hours, AccuWeather says.

The unstable weather will remain with us tomorrow.

According to AccuWeather, it will be warm and humid, with once again, scattered thunderstorms forecasted throughout the day.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WBBM for the latest weather information.
