(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — It’s a coincidence, but the Kane County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a training session tonight for people who want to learn how to survive an active shooter situation like the one that happened in Highland Park Monday.
Sheriff Ron Hain said his department has been holding the workshops regularly for three years. Among other guidance, the sessions explain how to cover yourself during an active shooter event, or “a lot of things the normal public doesn’t think about when they go out to a restaurant with their family — or unfortunately, go to a parade or a large gathering,” Hain said.
The two-hour course is offered every Tuesday to anyone, whether they live in Kane County or not. Minimum age is 18 years or older.
