SKOKIE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A man who allegedly pepper sprayed people protesting an Israeli solidarity event last weekend now faces hate crime charges.
Zevulen Ebert faces aggravated battery and hate crime charges, both felonies, for allegedly pepper spraying two people and a Chicago police officer.
The 33-year-old Skokie man was arrested Sunday in the melee of protests by groups supporting Palestinians and Israelis.
Organizers call the charges good news but continue to demand similar action against another man who was arrested in the melee for firing a gun into the air.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office said it found the 39-year-old concealed carry license holder was acting in self defense after being attacked by a crowd.
