(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The family of a Chicago Police officer killed in the line of duty 21 years ago is organizing an effort to keep his convicted killer in prison.

When Hector Delgado was convicted of murdering Chicago Police Officer Brian Strouse, Delgado was sentenced to life in prison.

He was only 16 when the crime was committed, so he was re-sentenced when the Supreme Court banned life sentences for juveniles. The initial sentence was pared down to 40 years.

Now, the family of Officer Strouse — as well as many in the rank and file — are pushing to stop any clemency bid by Delgado, who’s 37 today.

They say they are gearing up for a hearing next month to oppose any clemency bid.

Delgado’s projected parole date is 2041.
