Suspect in custody after targeting Joliet school in social media threat

JOLIET, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A suspect is in custody after posting a threat to a Joliet school on social media.

Administrators at Joliet West High School were notified of a threat circulating on social media Wednesday morning. Joliet Police quickly identified the individual, who posted the threat and the individual is now in custody, according to Joliet Township High School District 204.

"We are grateful to the Joliet Police Department for their quick action," the school district said in a statement.

Officials also reminded families of the importance of reporting threats to authorities and refraining from sharing rumored threats and unverified information with others.

"Every member of a school community is responsible for its safety."

The school is proceeding with normal procedures for the remainder of the day.
