(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A violent scene at a car dealer in DeKalb ended with a shooting by police.

Dekalb City Manager Bill Nicholas says 911 calls came in around 1 p.m. from the Brian Bemis Toyota dealership in the 1800 block of Sycamore Road for reports of a man armed with a knife.

“They encountered that person and commanded him to drop the weapon and he had, at that point, struck one of the employees of the dealership,” Nicholas said.

The worker’s injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

Nicholas says when a man who was not a customer or dealership worker refused officer's orders to drop the knife, he was shot and taken to a hospital for treatment.

“This is something we never want to see, but it's also something that we prepare for. Our police are trained to face unimaginable things.”

Nicholas says this appears to have been an isolated incident with no threat to the general public.
