Donut festival dishes out baker’s dozen to celebrate 10 years of Stan’s Donuts

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Stan’s Donuts & Coffee is celebrating a decade of serving up specialty doughnuts to Chicagoans.

To celebrate the significant anniversary, Stan’s Donuts held a festival on Saturday.

“We were trying to do something big for our tenth anniversary, which is next week for the stores and someone came to us and asked if we wanted to do a doughnut festival,” founder Rich Labriola said.

“There's other doughnut fests that kind of didn't happen after COVID. And so other doughnut guys were not interested.”

Close to 1,000 people showed up to the festival held in River North this weekend. To feed all of them, around 10,000 doughnuts were made for that event alone.

“We wanna make sure that everybody goes home full,” Labriola said.

There were 13 flavors available including: Dreamsicle, Blue Velvet Coconut, Captain Crunch Bismark, Blueberry Fritter, Mini Olive Oil Le Stan, Lemon Pistachio, and Tiramisu.

One of the stand out flavors of fans online was the Cookies and Cream OREO Donut. It was a heavy doughnut consisting of a large OREO cookie and Stan’s version of the OREO cream on top of a chocolate doughnut.

Most of these flavors were made specifically for the festival. Donut lovers who may have missed the event this year won’t have to worry about missing out on specialty flavors for too long.

“[The festival] is a great celebration for ten years, but this is gonna be an every year event, so we're happy to be showing it,” Labriola said.

The celebration of the 10th anniversary  is not over yet. Saturday, January 27 officially marks ten years. For the “STANniversary,” the restaurant is offering a few discounts, including ten cent small house coffee, $10 half dozen assorted donuts, and a free mini donut with an in-store purchase.

Additionally, the first 100 people at the original Stan’s Donuts location in Wicker Park will get a special anniversary t-shirt.
